My first attempt at writing this entry got deleted and I nearly gave up. But, I am at work killing time since my co-workers forgot some tools and there is nothing for me to do. So, here we go again.
I am turning 21 next month and I have been struggling to figure out what to do. My wife planned something for me, but my friend Aiden is visiting from Florida for 5 days and I want to do some things with him. I know we are definitely going hiking, exploring, sight-seeing, and whatever else comes up. If you were to be visiting Washington State for the first time, what would you want to see? I am planning something for my wife's 20th birthday, just four days before mine. It is so hard not to talk about. I will be making a whole blog post about that. So, keep an eye out for it after April 8th!
Recently me and Anna have been scrapbooking, inspired by some memory books from our church and her family's. So, We bought some stickers, printed pictures, and we have been going at it! With this, it has enabled me to reflect on my life and many memories which I have not paid mind to in ages. Recently, I have been reflecting on the fun events my bro's mom, Alaina, would put together when I was a kid. Specifically, she put together this Five Nights at Freddy's party. My cousins came over, and we all dressed up for it. Nee'e was Bonnie, Dyami was Foxy, Colel was Freddy, Ella was Chica, and I was Golden Freddy. There is a temptation to cringe at it. But, I am grateful that I had a chance to do silly things like that with my loved ones. And, I am grateful for the effort from my elders.
I look back and recognize efforts that I didn't before. Paying bills and making it to work has really helped me appreciate my parents and loved ones who have looked out for me. Life is not cheap, and children, although a blessing, are hard work. I know I was no easy kid. I was energetic, wild, and a bit reckless. I was truly blessed with people who could match my energy and have fun with me. It can be tempting to let the bad taint the good memories. But, there is so much good that happened. It should be appreciated.
On to another note, I decided to start making music again! It's been about 10 months since I stepped away and focused on my relationship with God and my wife. That is still my primary focus. But, I really enjoy writing, recording, and performing. So, I am coming back to music with a new and fresh heart. I don't want to sing as much about my hurt as I do about what has been so good for me. God, my loved ones, food, my cats, you name it. I don't know when I will play a show again, or if that is even happening. For now, I am writing and having a slight social media presence. There is a single on my Spotify. Other than that, we will see what happens.
With the subject of music at hand, my friend Sean invited me and my wife to a little get-together last Friday. We went, and met some nice people! Especially the guys in the band Tiger Really (Lian, Cody, Matty, and their fill-in drummer Chad). Very silly and laid back guys, which kinda shocked me considering they must be exhausted driving down from Vancouver, Canada. The following day, me and Anna elected to go to their show down in Tacoma, and I do not regret it! They had a great stage presence (especially Matty, that dude was running around on stage like he was Sonic the Hedgehog). After their show, we got Dicks burgers and then departed. They are now touring the West Coast, and me and Anna are hoping to catch them on April 5th before they leave the country.
A prayer that was answered recently was in a conversation I had with Tiger Really's fill-in drummer, Chad. We ended up clicking and had a great conversation on theology, specifically I got to tell him about who God is and a bit of His character. We didn't get too deep. But, something Chad brought up that was a blessing to me was the statement along the lines of "Our limited language prevents us from completely understanding God". This hit home because I have been studying apologetics a lot recently. That statement was just a simple but great illustration of us being limited in our understanding of who God is. How do we understand eternity? We don't. It takes humility to admit that we do not have all the answers, that is why it takes faith to trust and believe His word. If you are reading this, thank you for the great conversation, and listening to my thoughts Chad. I hope we can talk more.
Moving on, me and Anna saw Fluffy last night! We got to see his comedy show in Everett. It lasted a lot longer than I had initially imagined. What I thought was going to be a couple of hours ended up being 6.5. I laughed a lot during the opening sets, they were great! But, then the intermission ends. Ten minutes into Fluffy's set and I have to poop. This is terrible. I spent a pretty penny on this show, I can't just leave my seat. No, not for a second. So, I held it. An HOUR. That was an eternity. After a little over an hour, I just went. No, not in my pants. I pushed aside a few people and ran to a toilet. Thank goodness, the show ended right as I was pooping. This might be TMI, but you clicked on my blog so now you know I had to poop really bad while watching Fluffy make ten thousand people laugh. After the show, me and Anna got to meet him. He was really nice, as was Martin.
During the show, I pondered on local shows and the nature of them. I sincerely appreciate the time that Chad, Matty, Cody, & Lian took to connect with me and Anna. Not only did it make me appreciate and connect to their music more, but it made watching them perform as Tiger Really a lot more memorable. They were authentic, fun, and overall down to earth. Seeing Gabriel Iglesias was awesome, he was funny. But, there is magic to small shows and to the local scene. Small bands really appreciate your patronage.
In conclusion, I have been busy recently! Working on the best birthday present for my wife yet, planning the things me and Aiden will do while he's here, going to shows, and I am currently wrapping up a sermon I have been working on! Attached below are some fun pictures.
